A refutation of the Islam QA Article ‘Qadianiyyah in the Light of Islam'

A refutation of Islam QA Article 'Qadianiyyah in the Light of Islam'

Bismillah Ar Rahman Ar Raheem

All praise is due to Allah, the most merciful, our creator. It has come to my attention that Islam QA has penned an article called ‘Qadianiyyah in the Light of Islam’. This article is very problematic and misleading, along with being very hypocritical. I will structure this refutation into some main points:

  1. The truth about the History of the Ahmadi Movement

  2. The Truth about the Ahmadi Beliefs and what they are actually opposed to

  3. What happened in the 1953 Incident and the 1974 National Assembly Hearing

  4. The hypocrisy of Islam QA’s Aqeedah and Fiqh

Attributing falsehood to Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad A.S and the Khalifas (May Allah be pleased with them All)

The first text of Islam QA states:

Qadianiyyah is a movement that started in 1900 CE as a plot by the British colonialists in the Indian subcontinent, with the aim of diverting Muslims away from their religion and from the obligation of jihaad in particular, so that they would not oppose colonialism in the name of Islam. The mouthpiece of this movement is the magazine Majallat Al-Adyaan (Magazine if Religions) which was published in English.

This Text is completely wrong as Ahmadiyya was not a plot started by British Colonialists, it was started by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (A.S) of Qadian, and he did not divert Muslims away from the call of Jihad, rather he said that Muslims Should show respect to the British Raj, as Islamic Dawah and Islamic Tradition was not halted. The only Jihad at this time was the Jihad of pen were Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (A.S) engaged in writing books in defence of Islam and the Ahmadi Movement, as well as debating people. First of the Magazine which Islamqa claims was the mouth piece of the Ahmadiyya Jamaat never existed. Today if you look up 'Majallat Al-Adyaan " in Alislam.org, The Official Website of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, no results show up.Now in all actuality it IslamQA is refering to "The Review of Religions' Magazine which was created in 1902 and was  English-language comparative religious magazine published monthly by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. The Review of Religions was established by Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) in 1902 with the express purpose of disseminating Islamic teachings in the English language. The periodical had three main goals: to inspire new Muslim converts in the Western world who may have felt isolated and reinvigorate their efforts in propagating Islam; to convey a clear understanding of Islam to non-Muslim intellectuals; and to counteract Christian missionary proselytism. Clearly this shows how misinformed IslamQA is, they are calling a Dawah magazine the mouthpiece of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat. Regardless, Jamaat Newspapers have been Al Hakam, AlBadr, Al Fazal, and the Newly Released (July 19, 2019) Arabic Newspaper Al Taqwa.

Islam QA goes onto state:

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad al-Qadiani (1839-1908 CE) was the main tool by means of which Qadianiyyah was founded. He was born in the village of Qadian, in the Punjab, in India, in 1839 CE. He came from a family that was well known for having betrayed its religion and country, so Ghulam Ahmad grew up loyal and obedient to the colonialists in every sense. Thus he was chosen for the role of a so-called prophet, so that the Muslims would gather around him and he would distract them from waging jihaad against the English colonialists. The British government did lots of favours for them, so they were loyal to the British. Ghulam Ahmad was known among his followers to be unstable, with a lot of health problems and dependent on drugs.

Again, this text is also wrong, as Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (A.S) was not a tool, but he received revelation that he was indeed the Promised Messiah, and Mahdi, because he was destined to come at a time when Muslims were not unified, and when the world was a terrible place. His family was not known for betraying their faith and country, as they worked to safeguard the region around Qadian, and his family also made the Aqsa Masjid, which remains a prominent site. Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (A.S) was not chosen to be a prophet from the British, in fact, The British took many lands of Hazrat Ahmad (A.S), and Hazrat Ahmad (A.S) debated frequently with Christian Missionaries. The British did not do any favours for him, and it is completely false, that Hazrat Ahmad (A.S) used drugs, as he was a very knowledgeable and chaste person, and his followers also admit that Hazrat Ahmad (A.S) used to show Hospitality and Kindness on a daily basis.

If you want to know about Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) check this Alislam.org General Page on him, from there you can learn on the topics you want to learn:

The Promised Messiah

Islam QA states:

Among those who confronted him and his evil da’wah was Shaykh Abu’l-Wafa’ Thana’ al-Amritsari, the leader of Jama’iyyat Ahl al-Hadeeth fi 'Uloom al-Hind (The All-India Society of Ahl al-Hadeeth). The Shaykh debated with him and refuted his arguments, revealing his ulterior motives and Kufr and the deviation of his way. When Ghulam Ahmad did not come to his senses, Shaykh Abu’l-Wafa’ challenged him to come together and invoke the curse of Allaah, such that the one who was lying would die in the lifetime of the one who was telling the truth. Only a few days passed before Mirza Ghulam Ahmad al-Qadiani died, in 1908 CE, leaving behind more than fifty books, pamphlets and articles, among the most important of which are: Izaalat al-Awhaam (Dispelling illusions), I’jaaz Ahmadi (Ahmadi miracles), Baraaheen Ahmadiyyah (Ahmadi proofs), Anwaar al-Islam (Lights of Islam), I’jaaz al-Maseeh (Miracles of the Messiah), al-Tableegh (Conveying (the message))and Tajalliyyaat Ilaahiyyah (Divine manifestations).

This is also false, as The Ahle Hadees lost countless debates to Hazrat Ahmad (A.S) and the Founder of Ahle Hadees taught Hazrat Ahmad (A.S) and his true teachings is now with the Ahmadiyya movement. The Ahle Hadees of today has distorted Syed Nazir Hussain’s works, and resembled the salafi movement which the founder refrained from doing. There was no such debate between Hazrat Ahmad (A.S) and the Ahle Hadees before his death, and because the Ahle Hadees blatantly refused to listen to Ahmad (A.S), they issued fatwas against him, yet they never confronted him again. No such Prayer Duel had ever happened between the Ahle Hadees and Ahmad (A.S) as every single prayer duel left the opponents of Ahmadiyyat being severely defeated. Islam QA is also showing double standards, as they don’t know the real meaning of these books. Some of these books they have mentioned don’t exist, and they have altered their true meanings. Baraheen Ahmadiyya means the Arguments in support of the Holy Quran and the Prophethood of the Holy Prophet SAWW. Ijaz E Ahmadi means the Miracle of Ahmad and etc. This shows that Islam QA has not read even a single book of Hazrat Ahmad A.S, yet they accuse us of all sorts of nonsense. It is false that Hazrat Ahmad A.S penned 50 books, but he penned 80 instead.

Islam QA states:

Noor al-Deen (Nuruddin): the first Khaleefah of the Qadianis. The British put the crown of Khilaafah on his head, so the disciples (of Ghulam Ahmad) followed him. Among his books is: Fasl al-Khitaab (Definitive statement).

This is also hypocritical, as the British had nothing to do with Hazrat Noor Al Deen (R.A). The disciples of Hazrat Ahmad A.S did follow him, and he was indeed our first Caliph, but in no way did the British even care about him. Fasl Al Khitaab also means two things, The Importance of reciting Al Fatiha behind an Imam or a Two Volume response to Christian Polemics against Islam. This again shows that Islam QA does not know what they are talking about.

IslamQA states:

Muhammad Ali and Khojah Kamaal al-Deen: the two leaders of the Lahore Qadianis. They are the ones who gave the final shape to the movement. The former produced a distorted translation into English of the Qur’aan. His other works include: Haqeeqat al-Ikhtilaaf (The reality of differences), al-Nubuwwah fi’l-Islam (Prophethood in Islam) and al-Deen al-Islami (The Islamic religion). As for Khojah Kamaal al-Deen, he wrote a book called al-Mathal al-A’laa fi’l-Anbiya’ (The highest example of the Prophets), and other books. This Lahore group of Ahmadis are those who think of Ghulam Ahmad as a Mujaddid (renewer or reviver of Islam) only, but both groups are viewed as a single movement because odd ideas that are not seen in the one will surely be found in the other.

Muhammad Ali And Khojah Kamal Al Deen sadly went astray from the Mainstream Ahmadiyya movement, but they did not make a mistranslated version of the Quran into English. Infact, it is the same translation of the Quran that is used by organisations such as Nation of Islam. The Lahore Group of Ahmadis were also persecuted as well as mainstream Ahmadis, which shows that in the eyes of persecutors they were the same, yet by difference in understanding Lahori Ahmadis are different from the mainstream movement. However, Islam QA is using this technique to make people think that Ahmadis are divided, which is false. Lahore Ahmadis only make 0.3 Percent of the Ahmadiyya Movement, which is very insignificant.

IslamQA states:

Muhammad Ali: the leader of the Lahore Qadianis. He was one of those who gave the final shape to Qadianiyyah, a colonialist spy and the person in charge of the magazine which was the voice of the Qadianiyyah. He also produced a distorted translation into English of the Qur’aan. Among his works are Haqeeqat al-Ikhtilaaf (The reality of differences), and al-Nubuwwah fi’l-Islam (Prophethood in Islam), as stated above.

Firstly what proof is that Muhammadi Ali was a colonialist spy? Anyone can make a claim but a truthful person will give evidence otherwise they are just lying. If anyone wants proof of what I am saying in this article they can check the links I have given and check Alislam.org. Secondly as said before the Review of Religions was not the mouthpiece of ahmadiyya. Thirdly Muhammad Ali was not the only editor of 'The Review of Religions' The Early Editors of The Review of Religions were:  Muhammad Ali, Khwaja Kamal-ud-Din, Mufti Muhammad Sadiq, Maulwi Muhammad Din , Mirza Bashir Ahmad, Maulvi Sher Ali, Malik Ghulam Farid, Abdul Rahim Dard, Maulwi Farzand Ali , and Sufi Abdul Qadeer Niaz.

IslamQA states:

Muhammad Saadiq, the mufti of the Qadianiyyah. His works include: Khatim al-Nabiyyeen The seal of the Prophets).

Wow, IslamQA hasn't done any research. There is no such book by Mufti Muhammad Sadiq by the name "Khatam Nabiyeen". It is absolutely insane how IslamQA mentions a made up book but doesn't mention the Key Work of Mufti Muhammad Sadiq, that being the Muslim Sunrise Magazine.

To know more about Mufti Muhammad Sadiq:

The Muslim Sunrise has a great article on his life history and works:

Mufti Muhammad Sadiq: Founder of Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in the United States of America

Al Hakam made a 2 part series on Mufti Muhammad Sadiq:

Part 1: Mufti Muhammad Sadiq r.a. - An Early Ray of Western Sunrise

Part 2: Mufti Muhammad Sadiq r.a. - An Early Ray of Western Sunrise

Here is a 'The Review of Religions' article on Mufti Muhammad Sadiq:

Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Sadiq(ra); A Pioneering Ahmadi in America

IslamQA states:

Basheer Ahmad ibn Ghulam. His works include: Seerat al-Mahdi (the life of the Mahdi) and Kalimat al-Fasl (Decisive word)

Atleast get the name right!  I don't get what the need to be so academically dishonest is there? The person IslamQA is trying to refer to is Hadrat Mirza Bashir Ahmad(r.a). Secondly even in their new name they made a mistake. If anything it should be, Bashir ibn Ahmad. as the father of Hadrat Mirza Bashir Ahmad and the founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community's name was 'Ahmad'. Now IslamQA does get it right that Hadrat Mirza Bashir Ahmad(ra) wrote Seerat Al-Mahdi. However Kalimat al-Fasl is not a book written by Hadrat Mirza Bashir Ahmad(ra). If you do not believe me look at the English Books and the Urdu Books of his.

IslamQA states:

Mahmood Ahmad ibn Ghulam, his second Khaleefah. Among his works are: Anwaar al-Khilaafah (Lights of the caliphate), Tuhfat al-Mulook and Haqeeqat al-Nubuwwah (The reality of prophethood).

Again, the name of the Second Khalifa was not 'Mahmood Ahmad ibn Ghulam'. It was Hadrat Mirza Bashirudeen Mahmood Ahmad. IslamQA does get it right that Hadrat Mirza Bashirudeen Mahmud Ahmad(ra) wrote Anwar-e-Khilafat, however the other two books that IslamQA claims he wrote he did not write. If you do not believe me look at the English Books and the Urdu Books of his.

Islam QA states:

The appointment of the Qadiani Zafar-Allaah Khan as the first Foreign Minister of Pakistan had a major effect in supporting this deviant sect, as he gave them a large area in the province of the Punjab to be their world headquarters, which they named Rabwah (high ground) as in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning): “… And We gave them refuge on high ground (rabwah), a place of rest, security and flowing streams.” [al-Mu’minoon 23:50].

Firstly we should say what IslamQA gets right. IslamQA gets the fact right that Rabwah was named after a word in the Quran:

[23:51]

ENGLISH
And We made the son of Mary and his mother a Sign, and gave them refuge on an elevated land of green valleys and springs of running water.

This is precisely why Anti-Ahmadies refer to Rabwah as 'Chenab Nagar'. Anyways now to talk abou what IslamQA got wrong in their quote about Rabwah. Contrary to what IslamQA says Rabwah was not handed freely to Ahmadi Muslim Jamaat. The land was leased by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community following the migration of most of its members from Qadian and other parts of Indian Punjab, to newly created Pakistan. In June 1948, 1034 acres of land were leased from the government for PKR 12,000.(Tareekh-e-Ahmadiyyat, Volume 11, Page 410. Edition 2007. Published by Nazarat Nashro Ishaat, Qadian, India and Silsila Ahmadiyya by Dr Mirza Sultan Ahmad volume 2 edition 2008 page no 236)

Islam QA states:

Ghulam Ahmad began his activities as an Islamic daa’iyah (caller to Islam) so that he could gather followers around him, then he claimed to be a mujaddid inspired by Allaah. Then he took a further step and claimed to be the Awaited Mahdi and the Promised Messiah. Then he claimed to be a Prophet and that his prophethood was higher than that of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

Here Islam QA makes three claims against Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as). The first being that him defending Islam was a mere show so he could gain followers and the second being of his increasing claims, and finally they claim that he said (nauzbillah) that hi  prophethood was higher than that of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Firstly the claim that he did Dawah for followers is incorrect. Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad(as) was told by Allah that he was the Promised Messiah in 1890, so in order to see his dawah activities lets look at his books prior to 1890.

al-Barāhīn al-Ahmadīyyah 'alā Haqīqatu KitābAllāh al-Qur'ān wa'n-Nabūwwatu al-Muhammadīyyah Vol I & II: Writing Completed 1879 C.E

Purani Tahrirein: Writing Completed 1880 C.E.

al-Barāhīn al-Ahmadīyyah 'alā Haqīqatu KitābAllāh al-Qur'ān wa'n-Nabūwwatu al-Muhammadīyyah Vol III: Published 1882 C.E.

al-Barāhīn al-Ahmadīyyah 'alā Haqīqatu KitābAllāh al-Qur'ān wa'n-Nabūwwatu al-Muhammadīyyah Vol IV: Published 1884 C.E

Surmah Chashm-e-Aryah: Writing Completed 1886 C.E.

Shahna-e-Haq: Writing Completed 1887 C.E.

Sabz Ishtihar: Writing Completed 1888 C.E

These books are full of arguments in favor of Islam and refutations of other religions. If it was for followers, he would not have put so much effort and issued a challenge to Non Muslims in al-Barāhīn al-Ahmadīyyah 'alā Haqīqatu KitābAllāh al-Qur'ān wa'n-Nabūwwatu al-Muhammadīyyah. In the announcement contained in part one, Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (a.s.) sets out the form, conditions and criteria of the challenge and offers a reward of 10,000 rupees (total value of the author's property) to the respondent, provided that three judges agreed upon by both parties, 'unanimously give the verdict that the conditions' have been met. Hadrat Ahmad stated:

  • Anyone from the 'various religions and creeds' is invited to prove that their holy books are equal in status to the Qur'an by presenting such arguments in support of and derived purely from their central scriptures, as the author has done from the Qur'an in support of its truth and that of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
  • If One is unable to advance the same number of arguments as he has, then one may produce half, or one-third, or one-fourth, or one-fifth of them or at the least refute his arguments one by one.
  • The permission to advance up to one fifth of the arguments does not pertain to the total number of arguments but rather to each "category of arguments" that is, (a) arguments based on the 'inherent excellences' or internal evidence of the truth of the holy scripture and that of the religion's founder; and (b) arguments based on external evidence, upon 'objective facts and established, recurrent events'. These two categories are further divided into the 'simple argument' and the 'composite argument', the former being that which is independently and in itself sufficient evidence of divine origin and truth; the latter that whose validity requires a set of mutually dependent arguments

...anyone who intends to take up the challenge should, from each category of arguments, advance [from his own scripture] half of the arguments of the Holy Quran or one-third of them, or one-fourth of them, or one-fifth of them. This is in case he is unable to produce all the arguments that fall under one category.

  • If he is unable to advance arguments from his own scripture or present even one fifth of the arguments in accordance with the conditions then he must acknowledge by a written submission that the 'inadequacy and irrationality of his scripture has rendered him incapable of fulfilling this clause.

Clearly a person who wants followers wouldn't issue challenges to create refutations of his book. Also looking from the life of Ahmad(as), the actions he took show he was not a self apponted world leader, as Imam Abdul Rahim Dard wrote in his book, Life of Ahmad(as):

It was in March 1882, that Ahmadas received the first Divine command which made him a reformer. Righteous people requested him to accept their Bai‘at (spiritual allegiance) as early as 1883, but he did not like the idea and as he had no such authority from God, he always expressed his inability to do so. He was commanded by God in February or March 1888, to lay the foundations of the Community by inviting people to Bai‘at. But he did not want all and sundry to join the faith and therefore waited for a suitable opportunity which presented itself when, at the death of Bashir I, men of weak and superficial type separated themselves from him

lf-appointed, worldly leader this was a most inopportune time for such a venture. People were denouncing him because they said that the death of Bashir I (November 4th, 1888) had falsified his claims. But as Ahmadas was commanded by God, he had no regard for ridicule nor did he seek popular favour; on the other hand, he selected a time which, according to human and worldly calculation, was the least fitted for such an enterprise. On December 1st, 1888, he issued an Ishtihar inviting people to Bai‘at

Now to address the second claim of growing claims. If someone makes a claim and people reply to him in a harsh way and start to throw rocks at him, would a liar make a greater claim or something smaller? Common sense tells us that if he was a liar, he would obviously, claim something smaller. A sign of the Prophets is that the Prophets are treated harshly and treated in a horrible manner but they never remove their claim and this proves their truthfulness. When the Holy Prophetsaw made his first claim of prophet-hood, a lot became his enemies. He did not take his claim back; rather Allah revealed to him slowly and after he was told by Allah that he is a Prophet for all of mankind, which causes an increase in the enemies.

The same exact occurred with the Promised Messiah, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas. When he claimed to be the Mahdi, death threats began against him. When Allah told him that Isaas had died, and he claimed this, people started to set fires in India. When Ahmadas claimed Guru Nanak was a Muslim, and the prophecy of the Promised Guru was about him, the Sikhs even turned against him. When Ahmadas said Krishnaas preached the message of one God, and that he is the latter day Krishna, the Hindus also became enemies. This is a sign of his truthfulness. The Prophets claims only grow rather than decrease. The Holy Prophetsaw was slowly told that he was a prophet for the entire mankind and as time went by, his claim grew. If the claims grow slowly, and the opponents grow on each claim, it is obvious that liars would not grow their claims and would rather retrieve them

People who make this claim against Hadrat Ahmad(as) should know that the same could be said of Holy Prophet Muhammadsaw. To demonstrate this I will show Quranic Ayahs and Ahadith.
